Obverse description Armored equestrian effigy of Augustus II (the Strong), Elector of Saxony and King of Poland, depicted in right-facing profile mounted on a rearing horse. The king is shown in full armor with a flowing cloak and crown, holding a baton or sword in his raised right hand. The horse tramples a cannonball beneath its hooves, a compositional element common to baroque royal portraiture of the period. The design is executed in high relief with fine engraving characteristic of the Dresden mint's craftsmanship.
