Obverse description A detailed rose in full bloom on a thorned stem with leaves and a bud in relief, surmounted by a heraldic crown at the top of the field. Two scrolled banners at the base of the stem bear the inscriptions 'PASADENA' and 'CALIFORNIA', with the legend 'THE CROWN CITY' along the lower rim. The circular legend and date appear around the periphery, bordered by a beaded rim.

Reverse description The CSNA monogram rendered as large letters superimposed over a relief map of California in the central field, flanked to the left by a sailing ship (Cabrillo's vessel) on waves and to the right by the California Republic Bear Flag on a pole. The circular legend 'CALIFORNIA STATE NUMISMATIC ASSOCIATION' appears around the upper periphery, with founding dates inscribed along the lower rim, all within a beaded border.
