Reverse description The reverse centres on a large cross of the Order of Christ — a broad, floriated cross pattée with pointed terminals — rendered in high relief against a plain field. Each of the four quadrants formed by the cross contains two cinquefoil rosettes, for a total of eight decorative blossoms evenly distributed around the central cross. The circular Latin motto IN HOC SIGNO VINCES ('In this sign thou shalt conquer') runs around the periphery, separated by small quatrefoil stops. A fine toothed border encloses the design, consistent with the milled fabric of the issue.
