| Reverse description | The reverse presents a large cross pattée in bold relief occupying the full inner field, its four arms extending nearly to the beaded inner border, with a single star point projecting upward above the upper arm — the hallmark design of the cruzado coinage. The four quadrants formed by the cross arms are each filled with annulet or foliate ornamental devices. A circumferential Latin legend — +I:EMANVEL:R:P:ET:A:D:GVIИE — identical to the obverse, runs within the beaded border, affirming the issuing authority of Manuel I, King of Portugal. |
