| Obverse description | The Portuguese royal arms displayed on a shield at the centre of the field, comprising five escutcheons arranged in cross formation each charged with five bezants, the whole ensigned by an ornate royal crown and enclosed within a bordure of seven castles. The mint mark letters (L-L or L-R) appear to the left and right of the shield in the inner field. The central device is contained within a beaded inner circle, with the circular Latin legend occupying the annular band between the inner and outer beaded borders. |
