| Obverse description | Crowned Portuguese royal arms at center, displaying the quintas shield with five escutcheons arranged in cross form, each bearing five bezants, surrounded by the bordure of castles, all surmounted by an elaborate royal crown. Mint mark and value numeral '400' appear flanking the shield in the field. The peripheral Latin legend runs along the coin's outer border, partially visible on this hammered flan. |
