| Reverse description | The ventral face of this clay cowrie imitation presents a relatively flattened, slightly concave surface with a broadly modeled central aperture groove running longitudinally along the base, approximating the natural mantle slit of the cowrie shell. The surrounding field is rough and unfinished, bearing irregular surface texture consistent with hand-worked fired or sun-dried clay. No toothed margins or detailed denticulation are rendered, reflecting the simplified artisanal manufacture typical of low-denomination proto-monetary cowrie surrogates of the Western Zhou to Warring States periods. |
