Obverse description Crowned royal effigy facing left in the center of the field, rendered in the characteristic crude style of hammered medieval Castilian coinage. The crown is prominently depicted above the head, with facial features suggested in low relief typical of the period. The surrounding legend runs along the periphery within a beaded inner border, identifying the monarch as king of Leon.

Reverse description A turreted castle with three towers occupies the central field, rendered in the simplified gothic style characteristic of Castilian billon coinage of the early fifteenth century. The central tower rises above two flanking towers, all set upon a base or battlement. Rampant lions appear to either side of the castle in the field. The royal legend encircles the design within a beaded border, identifying the monarch as king of Castile.
