Chinese commodity ration coupons for cooking oil — 食用油票 — remained in active use well into the late 1980s despite national reform policies gradually dismantling the planned distribution system. Sichuan province was among the last regions to fully phase out grain bureau controls on edible oils, and county-level bureaus like Cangxi's continued issuing their own local scrip independently of provincial standardization efforts.
Plain paper with no security features was typical of county-issued coupons from this period — forgery was deterred by tight local distribution networks rather than printing technology.
