| Obverse lettering | IMP VESP CAES AVG PONT MAX TRIB POT COS IIII (Translation: Imperator Vespasianus Caesar Augustus, Pontifex Maximus, Tribunicia Potestate, Consul Quartum. Supreme commander (Imperator) Vespasian Caesar, emperor (Augustus), high priest, holder of tribunician power, consul for the fourth time.) |
| Reverse description | A tetrastyle temple depicted in three-quarter perspective, set upon a stepped podium of three visible steps, with a triangular pediment above a decorated entablature. Within the cella, two standing figures face one another: Roma, helmeted and in military dress holding a spear, and a togatus figure, likely representing the emperor or the genius of the provincial community. The legend COM ASIA is inscribed on the frieze of the entablature. The overall composition reflects the iconographic tradition of the Commune Asiae, the league of Asian cities honoring Rome and the imperial cult, a design type revived under Vespasian at the Ephesus mint. |
