Obverse description Elongated oval cast silver ingot-form currency, the obverse surface bearing six official authenticating stamps (hallmarks) applied by mint officials. Two circular stamps appear at upper and lower fields, each enclosing kanji characters certifying purity and authority; four rectangular cartouche stamps are distributed across the central field in two vertical columns, each containing kanji script denoting the Hōei era designation and mint authorization. The stamps are individually impressed into the soft silver surface, creating slightly raised or incuse relief impressions characteristic of chōgin production.
