Obverse description The obverse of this cast billon bar displays six official certification stamps applied in an irregular arrangement across the surface. Two prominent oval cartouche stamps bearing the kanji character 文 (Bun, referencing the Genbun era) are positioned at the upper and lower extremities of the piece, serving as the principal era-name authenticating marks. The remaining four stamps, distributed across the central field, include additional assay and mint authorization marks typical of Edo-period Ginza certification practice. The surface is characteristically uneven and undulating, a natural consequence of the casting process, with the stamps impressed into the metal at varying depths. The overall appearance is consistent with the hand-finished, officially authenticated style of Genbun-period chōgin currency.
