| Obverse description | The obverse of this cast billon bar displays six official certification stamps applied in an irregular arrangement across the surface. Two prominent oval cartouche stamps bearing the kanji character 文 (Bun, referencing the Genbun era) are positioned at the upper and lower extremities of the piece, serving as the principal era-name authenticating marks. The remaining four stamps, distributed across the central field, include additional assay and mint authorization marks typical of Edo-period Ginza certification practice. The surface is characteristically uneven and undulating, a natural consequence of the casting process, with the stamps impressed into the metal at varying depths. The overall appearance is consistent with the hand-finished, officially authenticated style of Genbun-period chōgin currency. |
