Obverse description Central field features a crowned Gothic cross pattée, its arms terminating in decorative fleurs, set within a circular border. The crown surmounting the cross is rendered in relief in the medieval Portuguese style. A partial Latin legend in uncial characters surrounds the central device, reading ADIVTORIVM NOSTRVM IN MOMI (a truncated invocation). The flan is irregular and somewhat crude, characteristic of hammered coinage of the period. The overall die work reflects the artisanal striking technique typical of the Lisbon mint under Afonso V.
