Menander II ruled a shrinking kingdom — by the late 2nd century BC, Indo-Greek power in the Punjab was being squeezed steadily by the expansion of Indo-Scythian groups pressing in from the northwest. His copper issues, including this chalkous, were struck for local circulation in territories that would change hands within a generation. Bopearachchi's Series 1 attribution places this among his earliest issues, before the kingdom's final fragmentation.
