Additional information

Orthe was a small Thessalian community whose independent bronze coinage was short-lived, almost certainly curtailed by the consolidating pressures of the Macedonian-dominated Thessalian League during the late fourth and early third centuries. That political absorption is precisely why issues from Orthe are scarce — the mint window was narrow, and civic bronze of this type saw genuine local circulation before the issuing authority ceased to exist as an autonomous entity.
