Obverse description Crudely struck irregular billon flan bearing Arabic legends in the central field, executed in a cursive hand typical of Yemeni hammered coinage of the early 19th century. The inscription is arranged in multiple lines within a dotted or pellet border that follows the irregular perimeter of the coin. The legends, partially weak due to the primitive hammering technique, reference the issuing authority of Zabid. The overall style is characteristic of provincial Islamic coinage, with no figurative imagery, the design consisting entirely of calligraphic text in the field.
