| Obverse description | Crude hammered flan bearing an Arabic inscription in two or three lines occupying the central field, reading 'Abu Arish' in reference to the issuing sheikhdom. The lettering is rendered in a rough, informal hand characteristic of provincial Arabian hammered coinage of the early nineteenth century. The irregular flan edges and uneven strike are typical of the local minting tradition. No figurative devices or borders are present; the design is entirely epigraphic. |
