Obverse description The obverse bears a multi-line Arabic inscription arranged in three registers across the field, separated by horizontal lines. The uppermost register reads 'Sultan' (سلطان), the central register contains the royal name and title 'Mahmud Khan ibn Abd al-Hamid' (محمود خان بن عبد الحميد), and the lower register carries the epithet 'Da'iman Muzaffar' (دائما مظفر), meaning 'Ever Victorious'. A small rosette or pellet ornament appears in the central field. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border typical of hammered Ottoman provincial coinage.
