Obverse description Central field displays the heraldic arms of Érard de la Marck, Prince-Bishop of Liège, comprising a quartered shield with the arms of the see of Liège and the personal arms of the de la Marck family, surmounted by a bishop's crozier, all enclosed within an inner beaded circle. The surrounding legend in Gothic-influenced Latin script reads ERARD+DE+MARKA+EPS+LEODIN, separated by cross stops, identifying the issuer as Érard de la Marck, Bishop of Liège. The coin's flan is irregular, characteristic of hand-hammered production, and the copper surface displays a natural brown patina with traces of green oxidation.
