The Cantii occupied the southeast corner of Britain — the territory Caesar knew well enough to describe in detail after his expeditions of 55 and 54 BC. These small bronzes began circulating in the decades immediately following that contact, and the influence of continental Gaulish coinage on their fabric and module is direct rather than incidental. Caesar's campaigns disrupted existing tribal exchange networks across the channel, and local bronze production among the Cantii appears to accelerate precisely in the gap left by that disruption.
The wide reference spread across Spink, Van Arsdell, and ABC reflects genuine typological variation within the series — these are not a single homogeneous issue.
