Obverse description Facing bust of a bishop depicted in high relief against a plain field, rendered in the characteristic thin-flan bracteate style. The bishop holds a crozier in his right hand and a book in his left hand, the pastoral staff rising prominently beside the head. The effigy is enclosed within a narrow inner raised border and a broader outer raised rim, both following the irregular contour of the flan. The design is executed in a simple, archaic Romanesque manner typical of 13th-century Franconian ecclesiastical bracteates.
