Additional information

Guidobaldo II della Rovere inherited Pesaro through his mother, Eleonora Gonzaga, and spent much of his reign navigating the competing demands of the papacy and the major Italian powers while maintaining the della Rovere grip on Urbino. His billon issues from Pesaro reflect a mint that was active but never prolific — the duchy's fiscal resources were perpetually strained by military obligations, including his long service as captain-general of the Church under Julius III and Paul IV.
