Obverse description Central field displays the letters C, H, V, and S arranged in cruciform pattern around a central pellet or globule, forming a decorative cross composition typical of northern Italian hammered coinage. The peripheral legend reads the ruler's name, FRANCISCVS, interrupted by a small lion passant serving as a decorative stop at the legend's end. The inscription is separated by pellet stops throughout, and the entire design is enclosed within a circular border. The execution reflects the characteristic hand-struck style of late 14th to early 15th century Mantuan mint production.
