Obverse description Central crowned royal monogram of Philip II (PHILIPPVS), surmounted by a royal crown rendered in relief. The Segovia aqueduct mintmark appears to the left of the monogram, with the assayer's initial to the right. The design is struck on a roughly circular flan typical of hammered billon coinage, with the abbreviated legend PHILVS partially visible along the periphery. The monogram is composed of interlaced letters in the style characteristic of Castilian Renaissance coinage.
