| Obverse description | Central device consists of a castillo (castle) depicted within a lozenge-shaped (diamond) frame, set against a plain field. The castle, emblematic of the Kingdom of Castile, is rendered in a stylized Gothic manner with clearly defined towers and battlements. A circular legend surrounds the central device, separated by a beaded inner border. The Latin inscription ENRICVS DEI GRACIA REX runs around the periphery, identifying Henry IV as king by divine grace. The overall flan is irregular, characteristic of hammered coinage of the period. |
