Obverse description Three fleurs-de-lis arranged in a trefoil formation dominate the central field, surmounted by a crown, the whole set against a plain field within a beaded inner circle. A crescent or sun device appears to the upper left of the fleurs-de-lis grouping, characteristic of the balled trilobe and quadrilobe type attributed to the Lyon mint. The circumferential Latin legend, rendered in Gothic uncial characters, reads KAROLVS FRANCORVM REX, identifying Charles VIII as King of the Franks. The coin is struck on an irregular flan typical of late medieval French hammered billon coinage. The surfaces display the greenish-gray patina consistent with a billon alloy of this period.

Reverse description The reverse features a cross pattee with fleurs-de-lis at the terminals, set within a double quadrilobe frame adorned with balled cusps at the angles, a design closely associated with the blanc coinage of Charles VIII. The four quarters of the cross are plain. A circumferential Latin legend in Gothic uncial script surrounds the entire design within a beaded border. The legend SIT NOMEN DNI BENEDI, an abbreviation of the Psalm verse Sit nomen Domini benedictum, encircles the type. The flan is irregular and shows patchy green oxidation typical of hammered billon pieces of this denomination.
