| Obverse description | Central field displays the arms of Bourbon — a fleur-de-lis charged shield — set within a double beaded inner circle. The shield is rendered in the late medieval heraldic style typical of hammered feudal coinage. A crown appears above the shield. The surrounding circular legend in Gothic Latin characters reads IOHES DVX BORBONII TREVORCII DNS, identifying John as Duke of Bourbon and Lord of Trevoux. The legend is initiated by a cross pattée and the whole design exhibits the irregular flan characteristic of hand-hammered production. |
