Obverse description Three fleurs-de-lis arranged two above one within a double trilobe inner border surmounted by a crown at top. The field is plain and the trilobe lobes are clearly delineated. A circular legend surrounds the inner border, separated from the outer beaded rim by a secondary linear border. The inscription reads KAROLVS FRANCORVM REX, punctuated by pairs of superimposed annulets, identifying the issuer as Charles, King of the Franks.
