Additional information

Louis V ruled Chiny during a period when the county was being steadily absorbed into the orbit of the Prince-Bishopric of Liège, a pressure that shaped its coinage as much as its politics. The baudekin — a small billon denomination circulating across the Low Countries in the latter thirteenth century — was among the last independent monetary expressions of Chiny before the county formally passed to Liège in 1364. Surviving examples attributable specifically to Louis V are scarce enough that die studies remain incomplete.
