| Obverse description | Central quartered episcopal shield surmounted by a bishop's mitre, the arms incorporating the heraldic devices of the see of Basel and the Reinach family. The shield is rendered in fine relief with hatched fields indicating tinctures. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading IOANNES·CONRADVS·D·G·, identifying the issuing prince-bishop. The overall design is characteristic of early eighteenth-century Germanic ecclesiastical coinage. |
