| Obverse description | Central shield bearing the arms of the City of Bern — a diagonal band (bend) traversed by a walking bear — set within a beaded inner circle. A circular Latin legend surrounds the shield in the outer field, reading BERCHTV DVX ZERIN FVNDATOR, referencing the legendary founder Berchtold of Zähringen.
