THIS MARKED THE FIRST ENGAGEMENT BETWEEN IRONCLADS AND REVOLU- -TIONIZED NAVAL WARFARE. ★ SOME OF THE PARTS WERE FABRICATED IN BUFFALO AND IN TROY, N.Y. AND SHIPPED FOR FINAL ASSEMBLY TO THE CONTINENTAL IRON WORKS, GREENPOINT, BROOKLYN WHERE THE VESSEL WAS CONSTRUCTED AND LAUNCHED ON JANUARY 30TH 1862. THE GREEN POINT SAVINGS BANK
