Obverse description Right-facing truncated bust of Carl Linnaeus in high relief, wearing a curled wig and stock. The legend CAROLUS LINNAEUS arcs around the field on either side of the effigy. The engraver's signature W. WYON S. MINT. appears in the lower exergue.

Reverse description A draped allegorical female figure seated right of centre turns left to instruct a kneeling youth, pointing toward an ornate inscribed plinth bearing the names RAY, LINNAEUS, JUSSIEU, SLOANE and MILLER. To the right stands a large decorated vase with flowering plants in relief. In the lower exergue, a central medallion flanked by two serpents. The engraver's signature WYON S. MINT. appears below the ground line. The circumferential legend reads OB SOLERTIAM IN STUDIIS BOTANICIS LAUDATAM SOC. PHARM. LOND. VOLUIT. A.D. 1830.
