Obverse description The City of Westminster coat of arms — a quartered shield bearing roses, a cross, birds, and a portcullis with chains — is displayed in the centre, set within a six-pointed star in high relief. The interstices of the star are decorated with Gothic quatrefoil ornaments, and a ribbon bearing a floral spray appears at the base. The encircling legend reads WESTMINSTER INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION within a beaded border.

Reverse description The reverse features a central rectangular plaquette intended for engraving the recipient's name, suspended by ornamental brackets beneath an arched scroll bearing the legend AWARDED TO in relief. The year 1879 appears in the field below the plaquette, with the maker's signature J. PINCHES. LONDON incised along the lower edge of the plaquette. The entire central composition is enclosed within a wreath of laurel tied with a ribbon bow at the base.
