Obverse description The crowned arms of Scotland displayed centrally, featuring a rampant lion on the shield, supported by two chained unicorns rearing on either side. Above the shield is a royal crown surmounted by a lion statant, below is a compartment bearing the castle of Edinburgh with two motto scrolls reading NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSET and NISI DOMINUS FRUSTRA. The design is framed by thistle branches, with the maker's name KIRKWOOD & SON inscribed in the lower field.
