Obverse description Two standing allegorical figures in high relief flank a central cartouche bearing the motto: to the left, Avicenna in Eastern robes and turban; to the right, Galen in classical drapery holding a balance scale. Between them, a mortar and pestle surmounts the cartouche, surrounded by medicinal plants and flowers in detailed relief. The engraver's signature L.C. WYON appears in the lower field.
