Obverse description Young diademed bust of Queen Victoria facing left in high relief, wearing an ornate jewelled bandeau crown, her hair swept back in flowing waves and gathered in a chignon. The legend VICTORIA to the left and VINDEX to the right arc around the effigy within a raised rim.

Reverse description Two laurel wreaths tied at the base with ribbon bows flank a central upright laurel branch, all surmounted by a Royal Crown at the top of the field. The inscriptions CHUZNEE and CABUL appear within the wreaths to the left and right respectively, with the date 1842 in the lower exergue.
