Obverse description The arms of Trinity College Dublin displayed in relief at centre, comprising a shield charged with a castle and additional heraldic elements, set within a crosshatched field decorated with trefoils and rosettes. The surrounding legend reads TRIN. COLL. DUBLIN at the top and VOS EXEMPLARIA GRAECA at the base, separated by a beaded border.

The Greek legend ΑΙΕΝ ΑΡΙΣΤΕΥΕΙΝ arcs around the upper field, while the initials G B flank a small star and the founding date 1752 appear in the lower field. A small engraver's signature reading A.W. WYON SC is visible to the right of the ground line.
