Denholm Young and the awarded paper entitled "Losses of Efficiency in Steamship Operation" read on the 15th November 1928, with the text ENGINEERING MEDAL displayed on a raised central cartouche flanked by bolt-and-nut decorative elements. The circular legend NORTH EAST COAST INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS & SHIPBUILDERS runs around the full periphery. Hallmarks for the maker R&S and the 15ct gold standard (.625) are struck at the base.
