Reverse description A large eagle with wings outstretched in flight occupies the centre of the field, rendered in high relief with finely detailed feathering. Behind the eagle, radiating sunbeams emanate from a rising sun on the horizon, with a cityscape in the lower field and a hot-air balloon depicted above in the upper field. The engraver's signature A.G.Wyon Sc appears at the lower centre. The surrounding legend reads ROYAL AERONAUTICAL SOCIETY FOUNDED 12 JANUARY 1866.
