Obverse description Three allegorical female figures in high relief stand before a central column: at left, Oratory with a trumpet and books inscribed CICERO at her feet; at centre, History helmeted and holding a scroll; at right, Poetry with a lyre, beside a bust on a plinth inscribed HOMER. Above, Pegasus flies to the right and a dove hovers to the left. The engraver's signature MOSSOP F appears in the exergue below the scene. The circular legend runs around the rim, with the foundation date INST. A.D. MDCCXCIV in the lower exergue.
