A ribbon banner above the putto bears the motto DETUR DIGNISSIMO. The engraver's signature I·KIRK·F· appears at lower left. A two-line Latin inscription in the exergue below a ground line records the auspices of the Duke of Grafton as Chancellor of Cambridge University.
