Obverse description Laureate bust of Emperor Vitellius facing right, rendered in high relief with characteristic fleshy facial features and layered hair; a small globe is depicted at the point of the neck truncation, a distinctive iconographic element of this issue. The portrait is executed in the vigorous hammered style typical of the Year of the Four Emperors. The encircling Latin legend reads A VITELLIVS IMP GERMAN, identifying the emperor by name and his imperial and Germanic titles. A beaded border frames the design.
