(Translation: Imperator Caesar Vespasianus Augustus Pontifex Maximus, Consul Quartum, Censor. Supreme commander (Imperator) Caesar Vespasian, emperor (Augustus), high priest, consul for the fourth time, censor.)
Reverse description The personification of Pax (Peace) depicted standing to the left, her weight resting against a column, holding a caduceus extended over a tripod in her right hand and a branch in her left. The figure is rendered in classical drapery with graceful contrapposto stance, conveying the Flavian imperial message of restored peace and prosperity following the civil wars of AD 68–69. The reverse legend PAX AVG appears in the field, flanking the central figure. The composition is typical of Vespasianic aurei struck at Rome.
