| Reverse description | The personification of Pax seated left on a throne or chair, draped in flowing robes, extending an olive branch forward in her right hand and holding a caduceus in her left hand resting against her shoulder. The figure is rendered in the classical allegorical style typical of early Flavian aurei, with careful attention to drapery folds falling about the seat. The reverse legend is divided in the field on either side of the seated figure, with a dotted border encircling the design. The imagery of Pax underscores Vespasian's programmatic claim to have restored peace and order following the civil wars of 69 AD. |
