| Reverse description | The emperor Vespasian is depicted standing erect within a four-horse chariot (quadriga) advancing to the right, dressed in triumphal attire. In his right hand he holds an olive branch, symbolising peace and victory, while his left hand grasps a long sceptre, emblematic of imperial authority. The four horses are rendered in vigorous, dynamic stride, their harnesses and musculature carefully detailed. The composition evokes the traditional Roman triumphal procession and connects the reign of Vespasian to the Flavian triumph celebrated following the Jewish War. A beaded border frames the reverse field, and no legend is present on this type. |
