| Reverse description | Jupiter stands facing in the field, nude but for a chlamys draped over his left arm, holding a thunderbolt raised in his extended right hand and a long sceptre in his left. At his feet to the left kneels a small togated figure, identified as Trajan himself as Pater Patriae, rendered in a gesture of supplication or reverence toward the god, emphasising the divine protection accorded to the emperor. The composition is set on a plain ground line, with the figures occupying the full height of the reverse field in a bold, classicising sculptural style. The circular legend CONSERVATORI PATRIS PATRIAE in crisp Latin capitals encircles the design within a beaded border, proclaiming Jupiter as the divine protector of the Father of the Fatherland. |
