In her extended right hand she holds two stalks of grain (corn-ears), symbols of fertility and abundance, while her left hand bears a cornucopia overflowing with produce. The composition is classic Roman imperial reverse iconography, associating the emperor's rule with agricultural prosperity. The encircling legend PONT MAX identifies Otho in his role as Pontifex Maximus, chief priest of the Roman state religion. |
