| Reverse description | Salus, the personification of health and well-being, depicted draped and seated left upon an elaborately ornamented throne. In her extended right hand she holds a patera, the shallow libation dish, while her left arm rests upon the side of the throne in a pose of composed dignity. The figure is rendered with careful attention to drapery folds, conveying classical elegance befitting an Augustan-era allegorical type. The abbreviated legend SALVS appears prominently in the field, identifying the deity. The overall composition reflects the high artistic standards of the Roman imperial mint during Nero's reign. |
