| Obverse description | Laureate and cuirassed bust of Maximianus facing right, with the emperor depicted wearing scale armour and a paludamentum. He holds a spear or sceptre over his right shoulder and a parazonium or eagle-tipped sceptre in his left hand. The portrait is rendered in the vigorous, heavily-bearded style characteristic of the Tetrarchic period. The surrounding legend reads VIRTVS MAXIMIANI AVG, separated by a beaded border. |
